December 2021
This was a season for the record books. Not only was Levi the first repeat champion in Gobbler Open history, but he also set multiple other records that you can see below.
For many players going into the weekend, their only hope for the belt was if Levi seemingly forgot how to golf and had a collapse of legendary proportions. This hope was only magnified going into the last round when he posted in the top 3 of the first round. Finally, all hope was lost during the final round at Vaaler on the 12th hole par 3 when Levi proceeded to place an 8 iron 2 feet from hole and tap in for birdie, demonstrating he had very much not forgotten how to swing and was not going to let up.
This fall season extended into December and because of that there were some colder temperatures for championship weekend. The first round had terrible wind and sub 40 temperatures that bit at the players and made many focus more on the numbness in their face and hands then on hitting a good shot. The final round at Vaaler started out nippy but without any wind and the sun out, the day turned into a chance to play some great golf.
Levi is now a 2 time winner and belt holder. Being the only Gobbler to have won both Champion belts.
First repeat champion in Gobbler Open history
First player to go coast-to-coast with the lead.
First time in Gobbler history a player has finished in the top 3 on every course played. 3 first place finishes, 2 second place finishes and 1 3rd place finish.
During the regular season Levi took 1st in 3 out of four events and finished 2nd in the other. This performance led to the biggest lead going into championship weekend in Gobbler Open history.
Margin of victory was the biggest ever seen in Gobbler Open history. Besting the next closest player by 16 strokes. The season 4 Gobbler Open winner only won by a margin of 5 for comparison.
Regular season 3rd place finisher and darkhouse hopeful, Brandon Kruse, drove to the wrong course for the first round. This resulted in him being 2 hours late to the round and having to play the first 7 holes by himself in order to keep from being DQ’d.
Cody Kline took home the last place dishonorable belt.
